what are postal leagues?

Postal Leagues are competitions between different clubs around the country. Each club taking part in the league enters archers who shoot the same round once a month (in the months dedicated to that league). After the shoot, the supplied result sheets are completed, the top 3 archers form the A team next three the B team and so on. These teams are then put in divisions and the winners of each division by the end of the league are given awards.

Here at the Foresters we regularly take part in 3 different postal leagues. The Selby Postal League at which we shoot a Short Metric or National round and The BA Postal League which comprises of 2 rounds: - the Portsmouth indoor round and the Frostbite outdoor round.

The Selby Postal League (Summer League) takes place from May - September and we usually submit scores for 2 teams of Recurve archers and 1 Compound team(3 people per team – it can be different people each month so don’t worry if you can’t make every shoot) for the rounds each month. We shoot this on a Wednesday evening down at the field and it is almost always followed with tea and cake afterwards.

The BA Leagues (Winter Leagues) both take place from November - March and are usually shot with the same team set up as above.

THE PORTSMOUTH round is shot indoors at 20 yards on a 60cm face with 5 dozen arrows. This is either shot on a Wednesday night or a Saturday morning at our indoor venue at Brockington College.

THE FROSTBITE round is shot outdoors, usually on a cold, Sunday morning (hence the name) and is only 3 dozen arrows at 30 metres on an 80cm face. 

This is also an opportunity to get more bling for your quiver as badges are available for both these rounds.
